I.s.r.o.discovered water on moon!!what does that mean to the world?

I.s.r.o.(Indian space research organisation) maiden lunar craft “Chandrayan -1″ traces water on moon…..but is it for the first time that a space organisation has found such thing or has N.A.S.A. already prroved that there is water on moon ages ago……
and dont you think for a country like India which is economically so weak (still a developing country)this is a very big achievement….
David S- i think you need to upgrade your memory as this is not for the first time India has done something in science and technology…see this link and then you will be able to know how indians have given their contribution to the world in every field even when we were under bristish rule….we are independent for only 62 years and in only such small time india has shown immense development which no country in the entire world has shown….

The existence of significant water in polar regions and deep craters on the Moon has been anticipated for a while. The probe you are referring to has confirmed that substantial quantities do in fact exist. To me, that seems like an excellent achievement. It means that future colonies do not have to carry as much water – or air – with them. This is all a very good thing, and the Indian effort in this regard is worthy of respect for its accomplishment.

My son has been to India to present some of his technical work in Hyderabaad. He has told me about the major differences in the way people live – some in palaces, others in cardboard shacks that may be adjacent to the palaces. I suspect that, like in the U.S., curtailment of technical efforts like the space program would do little or nothing to divert funding for real social change. I hope India continues to pursue peaceful technical excellence. Improvement of living conditions will result from these and other efforts.
